Week 8
1/8/2011
Hi everyone, At the start of the week we were still staying at the Sunmoon Resort in Perth. We went to SciTech after lunch which is basically the ScienceWorks of Perth. There, we got our portraits drawn by a robot, played a laser harp, learnt about saving water, went on a 3D hang gliding simulator, learnt how to be a detective, and much much more. The next two days Ali and I worked on school projects and did work on the website. The final day of studies was the fourth of July, Mum’s birthday. To celebrate, we had morning tea at Spinnakers Cafe’ at Hilarys and after that, we went on a short walk to a lighthouse that doubled as a lookout. We could see Perth and the sea. The next day we went to AQWA. AQWA stands for the Aquarium of Western Australia. My favourite part of it was the large tank. We all stood on a conveyor belt that went around underneath the tank in a loop. We saw sharks, manta rays, turtles, and lots and lots of fish. After that we went to the Stingray display where there were heaps of sting rays. Some of them would splash up against the edges of the pool. The only thing stopping you from falling in was common sense really. There weren’t any ropes or chains so you would have to be really careful with small children. But even then, there was a sign saying how sting rays will only attack if they are hiding under some sand and you accidentally step on it, and even then, they just cause severe pain and rarely death. After that we went back to the resort. In the morning the next day, we headed into Perth Central in attempt to navigate to Kings Park. It was hard with some major roadworks and lots of one way streets, and we almost ended up on the highway twice. But eventually we reached the park. It was much bigger than I thought, and it was a nice break from the city. The grass was so green and level. It was like a top golf course. We got some nice views of Perth and the Swan River from a lookout. | After our short city escape, we went back through the maze of Perth’s streets and finally reached the resort. The next day, we decided to go on a Swan River cruise. But before we went on the boat, we visited the Swan Bell Tower. There was a time capsule in there that was from last year that will be opened in 99 years now. Then, we bought our tickets and hopped on a Captain Cook Cruise boat. We went down the river while the captain told us about the area and even pointed out the most expensive house in W.A which is owned by the third richest person in the state. It was sold for about sixty-four million dollars! The richest woman in Australia also owns a house bordering the Swan River. The boat stopped at Fremantle and we hopped off there. We walked to the Maritime Museum where there were lots of boats. There was even a boat that went around the world on display, a Catalini. Dad, Ali and I then went on a tour through a submarine. James couldn’t come meaning that Mum couldn’t either. We saw where the crew slept, ate, worked, and even went to the toilet. I was amazed by the amount of controls that were on the submarine. I don’t think that I would be able to maneuver it through the water with as much ease as it’s crew did. After that, we all hopped on the suburban train and went to the Perth City Central station where our car was parked. We then went home and that ended our eighth week on our journey around Australia.
